The Full Story

The Goyder Hub Project was developed out of a challenge raised by the manager of Barkers of Baldina Cottage Homes in Burra that their aged residents did not know what activities were available around town that the residents could become involved in.  From that enquiry to the Regional Council of Goyder, the Burra Aged Friendly Group (BAFT) was formed in 2020 with locals who were interested in fostering age-friendly activities in Burra.  At the same time, the Regional Council of Goyder conducted a Burra age-friendly survey to determine what types of activities the local ageing population was currently engaged in; the types of access they had to locate activities and; the community connections they had and/or would like to have in the future.

From that survey came information that focused on the needs of Burra's ageing population to be able to gain easy access to social and community activities that would encourage them to gain access to and feel included in the community.

In 2020 a grant was submitted to and subsequently won from Office of Ageing Well, SA Health, to set up an online central hub of information that the whole of community could access that focussed on age-friendly activities and services.  The project brief was originally to focus on Burra but due to Goyder wide interest, other Wards/Towns of Goyder were invited to incorporate their town specific information on pages designated to them on this site (see the Menu - Goyder Towns).

The Goyder Hub project began in earnest in December 2020 and will cease formally in September 2021, after which the website will be managed and maintained by volunteers from the original Burra Age Friendly Team now renamed as the Goyder Inclusive Friendly Towns (GIFT) group (expanded to include volunteer representatives from each of the Goyder wards).  This Goyder Hub Online site is a continuous work in progress and any community group or local relevant service who would like to be included in the site may contact, in the first instance, the Regional Council of Goyder to be referred to the volunteer/s managing this site for that particular Ward or Town.

This site incorporates video vignettes as part of the formal Goyder Hub project. The six videos were filmed for this project by Stu Nankivell of Blue Goanna Digital, Clare SA. Those videos feature:  The Friends of the Burra Railway Station; the Burra Bowls Club; the Burra & Districts Dog Obedience Club; Robertstown Community Centre; the Burra Community Library; the Burra Revegetation Group. If your community group has a particular video you would like loaded onto this site, please contact the Regional Council of Goyder, in the first instance, to be directed to your local Goyder Hub team member to discuss.

The Goyder Hub online site is a wonderful resource for all Goyder residents.  It has been the pleasure of the project team,  Barb Button (Goyder Council); Samantha Freemen (Goyder Council); Deb Selway (Project Consultant); Jenny Loftes (Web Designer, Studio J Production) and Susan Dunn (Office of Ageing Well, SA Health), in collaboration with the Burra Age Friendly Team (BAFT) (now Goyder Inclusive Friendly Towns GIFT) that this site has become a reality.  We thank all the Goyder residents who have had input into this site and provided their valuable information.
